Sarah’s quick off the Marc

Cast your minds back to last year’s I’m A Celebrity… for a moment. Remember all the hoo-hah about Marc Bannerman making a fool of his fiancée Sarah Matravers, when he began flirting with Cerys Matthews?

Well, as pissed off and annoyed as Ms Matravers was at the time, one thing she probably wasn’t upset about was losing the love of Bannerman.

And how do I know this, I hear you ask? Well, I’m merely supposing because the 33-year-old actress tied the knot yesterday a mere five months after last year’s controversy.

Admittedly, new hubby Ian Stewart is an old flame, but the fact that he’s a millionaire TV producer can’t have hurt either.

Better luck this time, Sarah!

Omid Djalili – just not funny!

Omid DjaliliWe had our company awards bash last night and the compere was none other than Omid Djalili – a man who I generally find very funny.

Sadly, last night he fell flatter than an apartment block in South London and just wasn’t funny.

Awards gigs are a tough job. Sure the comic can go on and do some of their normal routine, but the audience also hopes that the funnyman will make some hilarious references to your job and where you work.

For some unknown reason, Mr Djalili didn’t make any effort to do that at all.

In fact, he seemed even more desperate than normal to play his ‘race’ card. All his jokes were about what it’s like to be an Iranian… jokes that I’ve heard him tell on numerous other occasions, when he’s appeared on TV or radio.

Sure, as journalists we’re probably slightly more cynical than many audiences, but fundamentally we just want to laugh and we’d had enough wine to get us in the mood for a good giggle.

And I’ve seen enough other comedians bring the house down at events such as last night, so it’s not an impossible job.

I can’t believe that this is Omid Djalili’s first big corporate gig, so let’s just say many of us were slightly disappointed!

Is Kylie’s bondage act a step too far?

Kylie Minogue“Kylie Minogue wows US audiences with bondage performance” screamed the headlines.

In a bid to crack the American market, which she has surprisingly yet to do, Kylie dressed up as nothing more than a high-class call girl to perform Can’t Get You Out Of My Head on the Us version of Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing With The Stars.

The thing is, shouldn’t Kylie be a bit beyond all this ‘shock factor’ by now? Isn’t this act just a bit ‘ewwww’?

Maybe she feels she has something to prove after her battle with breast cancer, but now she’s into her third decade of a pop career, can’t she just settle for producing good music and not try to fool people with a lot of flim-flammery?

‘Cracking’ America can take years and, although not exclusively, is a young person’s game.

Given that Kylie is unfeasibly successful throughout most of the rest of the world, it surprises me that she feels the need to try and make it in the US.

I also look at the Minogue now and just see a slightly tired once-youthful pop star desperate to keep her star bright.

Kylie, just keep it simple – make good pop songs and people will come.
