I’m a Celeb’s back… not as good as last year!

I’m A Celeb 2008So the latest line-up for I’m A Celeb has been announced and it has that familiar feel about it. The ‘feel’ being – oh, god what a load of rubbish.

Lots of random young ‘stars’ who most people have never heard of – Nicola McLean, anyone? Boring popstars/soapstars who are desperate to revive their career now they’re no longer a part of what made them famous – Simon Webbe from Blue and ex-EastEnder Joe Swash.

In fact, the most interesting people are the older contestants who might get a little more irritated and annoyed by everyone else: Esther Rantzen, Robert Kilroy Silk, Martina Navratilova and George Takei will surely dominate the action.

The thing is, though, if you think back to previous years, many of the contestants fit into a specific bracket:
– Weird American (David Gest, Angie Dickinson, Huggy Bear – Martina in 2008)
– Outspoken older woman (Christine Hamilton, Lynne Franks, Jan Leeming, Janet Street Porter – Esther in 2008)
– Slightly older attractive woman (Sheree Murphy, Cerys Matthews, Natalie Appleton – Dani Behr in 2008)
– Ex soap star (Elaine Lordan, Malandra Burrows, Dean Gaffney, Chris Bisson – Joe in 2008)
– The one that no-one remembers but they needed to make up the numbers (Diane Modahl, Nigel Benn, Faith Brown, Kimberley Davies – Carly this year)

I don’t really want to commit to watching it, but something tells me I’ll be hooked in 2 weeks time. Roll on Ant & Dec…

Is Gok Wan on the way down?

Gok WanGok Wan, currently more ubiquitous than a toff at a Tory Party conference, was back on TV last night with his latest foray into making women and himself feel better about themselves, Miss Naked Beauty 2008.

He always seems like a fairly OK bloke, but my god isn’t he everywhere all of a sudden? No sooner has Gok’s Fashion Fix finished than this latest show hits the screens.

And inevitably to publicise his show, he’s been interviewed everywhere. In fact, he’s now been featured in the Guardian and Observer, which is proof positive that his star is waning!

He’s also regularly dispensing fashion and beauty advice in a host of women’s magazines at the moment. In fact, wherever you turn, bloody Gok is there.

I guess as a bloke I don’t quite get the ‘you go, girlfriend’ thing he’s got going on, but it starts to grate after a while.

I also don’t care that he used be 21 stone – well done for losing the weight, but don’t keep telling us all the time. It’s almost as bad as when fat people tell you that they ‘used to be slim’.

My final irritation about Miss Naked Beauty was the sanctimony of the people involved. If Gok and Myleene are so into looking natural, why don’t they go in front of the camera for the entire programme without any make-up?

Now that really would make it interesting viewing!

Why is Ricky Gervais dyeing his hair?

Ricky Gervais on Jonathan Ross

Ricky Gervais appeared on Jonathan Ross last Friday continuing his usual chummy banter with the host and was actually very entertaining.

The thing I noticed while we watching, though, is that he’s dyed his hair a really unfortunate shade of black. It’s that black that everyone notices, not the one that people ignore because they assume it’s your natural colour.

The thing is, I don’t understand why. Ricky’s into his 40s, he’s successful because he’s funny, not for his looks. Why does he feel the need to cover up the grey?

I’m 36 and just starting to notice the first grey hairs creeping in. There’s no way I’m going to bother digging out the Grecian 2000 – going grey can often end up looking sophisticated.

And anyway, it’s going bald that you really have to worry about – maybe that’s what Ricky’s really trying to hide!
